Welcome To The Department of Civil Engineering Dr. D. Y. Patil Pratishthan’s College of Engineering, Salokhenagar, Kolhapur The Department of Civil Engineering at Dr. D. Y. Patil Pratishthan’s College of Engineering, Kolhapur, is committed to academic excellence, skill development, and preparing students for successful careers in industry, research, and public service. We are a dynamic team of highly qualified faculty with strong academic credentials and valuable industry experience. I, Dr. Abhijeet Patil, Head of the Department, hold a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from VTU, Karnataka, and an M.E. in Structural Engineering from Shivaji University, Kolhapur. I am also a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India). Our department boasts faculty with expertise in Structural Engineering, Construction Management, and Environmental Engineering, with an average of 8 years of teaching experience. Six of our ten faculty members are currently pursuing their Ph.D. from reputed institutes such as VTU Belagavi, Shivaji University Kolhapur, and IITRAM Ahmedabad. Our faculty members are actively involved in curriculum design and examination-related activities of Shivaji University. They contribute to syllabus development, question paper setting, and evaluation processes, ensuring alignment with academic and industry standards. The department emphasizes holistic student development. To support students aspiring to join government services—such as the Public Works Department and Water Resource Department—our faculty contribute to the Competitive Examination Cell. Activities such as expert talks and mentoring for exams like MPSC and Saral Seva Bharti are regularly organized. Many of our alumni are currently serving in prestigious roles within Zilla Parishads and other state departments. Our alumni network extends across diverse fields including core Civil Engineering, Information Technology, and Entrepreneurship. Several alumni have become registered contractors involved in major infrastructure projects under schemes like PMGSY, as well as private and government building construction. Many have pursued higher education from eminent national and international institutes such as BITS Pilani and NICMAR. The department has signed MoUs with prominent structural consultants, contractors, and construction firms, enabling students to undertake internships, industry projects, and training programs. Companies such as Vertex Design, known for project management services to global brands like McDonald’s and Hamleys, have recruited our students with competitive packages averaging ?3 LPA. Customized training programs are arranged in collaboration with industry experts to enhance employability. Understanding the practical nature of Civil Engineering, the department conducts regular site visits and field-based learning experiences. In the academic year 2023–24, students visited Karad Flyover, Kalammawadi Dam, Rukadi Bridge, and a water treatment plant. Our students also complete internships and final-year projects in collaboration with industry and academic institutions. Notably, our collaborative project with IITRAM on a solar vegetable dryer has been granted a patent. To foster skill development, the department offers regular training in software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and ETABS. Additionally, to broaden employment scope—including IT sector placements—students are trained in MATLAB, Java, and other relevant tools. Student mentoring is a core strength of our department. Faculty members maintain close academic and personal mentorship, helping students navigate both academic and personal challenges. Our students actively participate in technical events and have won accolades in inter-collegiate competitions. Scholarships from organizations such as the American Concrete Institute and Shantadevi Trust are awarded to deserving students. We are equally proud of our students’ achievements in sports, having produced athletes at the national, state, and university levels. Our department has won the sports championship twice and boasts recipients of Best Student Awards. Overall, the Civil Engineering Department is dedicated to providing quality education, promoting research, and nurturing well-rounded professionals who are ready to meet the demands of the construction industry and contribute to nation-building.
